BNN Operations Manager
Jim Atwood began as a BNN member and community producer in 1985, taking every available class at the JP Access Center and the Roxbury Studio. He produced documentaries and worked with a team of community activists on the “We Are the City” series that highlighted important political and social issues, profiled Boston’s life and times and won three national awards. Working at BNN - helping other producers with their efforts, volunteering to assist with operations and workshops - led to various part-time positions and a new career.
Based on skills learned at BNN, Jim worked as an independent video producer, creating a series of documentaries for the Huntington Disease Society among other projects, then joined BNN’s staff full-time as JP Access Center Coordinator in 1989. He has continued in various staff roles ever since, including Field Production Coordinator/Trainer and Access Director. As Development Officer from 2007-2010, Jim helped to build new youth programs and to secure capital campaign funding for the new facility in Egleston Square.
Jim grew up in West Roxbury, and was educated at Roxbury Latin, Antioch College and UMass Boston College of Public and Community Service.
