Our top story: the City Council considers local voting rights for immigrants. A hearing will be held tomorrow on a home rule petition supported by Council President Andrea Campbell. The measure would allow voting in city elections by immigrants with legal status. Boston Police are investigating a fatal shooting Saturday afternoon in Roxbury. The victim has been identified as a twenty-nine year-old man from Dorchester. The shooting took place a little after three p-m, on Homestead Street. To the sound of pipes this morning at Florian Hall in Dorchester, a class of new recruits joined the Boston Fire Department. Among those on h and for the ceremony were Mayor Walsh and Fire Commissioner Joseph Finn. For the fifth year in row on Saturday, Jamaica Plain hosted performers, visitors and neighbors for Porchfest. This time, there were more than eighty locations, from Forest Hills to Jackson Square and Egleston Square. Interview with Erik Berg, Boston Teachers Union.
